Long time, no see. It’s been a busy month and so I thought I would jump back into blogging with some of the children’s favorite books this month. We’re heading into the Summer months and that means that I am on the lookout for some good books to keep the kids adventures alive with. We don’t just read in the summer; it is a year-round experience that delights the children and my own heart to see the stories come to life with their playing. We had some new purchases this month that we really enjoyed (will be linked below) and I thought that some of them would be considered their favorites, but that was not always the case. So without further adieu, let’s get this started.

Euphemia’s Two favorite books this month:
Emma

Lulu Series She received book one as a Christmas gift and loved it. When we learned that our local bookstore carried the rest of the series, she was so enthusiastic and motivated to completely read each book. We had a rule of only one book at a time so she would take the time to enjoy it and stay motivated to finish the book. That worked really well for us.

Her second choice is these Magic Tree House Series which I use in connection with our history curriculum . I’ve only been able to pick up one or two as I find them at Thrift stores, yard sales, and the library sales table. Her Aunt really blessed us with a surprise package of the first four and I think both of the older children have already read through all four in the last 2-3 weeks.

When you have an active seven-year-old boy, you can only imagine the kind of stories he will choose; especially when he shows up in front of you with his newest costume invention:
Stephen
or
Stephen2
With King Arthur and the scientist inspiration, is it any wonder that Stephen’s two favorite book choices were, Pompeii: Buried Alive (Step Into Reading) and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Ben
Benjamin, who just turned four, is learning how to read and begin some simple school. His two book choices were actually his handwriting school work that I just got him, Handwriting with Diligence and a book he checked out at the library last time we were there, Star Wars DK Reader. I confess, as a non-sci-fi nerd, I wish I could get my kids more enthusiastic about classics but its something that I have chosen to limit but allow.

catie
Catie-did is loving this book she received for Christmas- Cozy Classics Pride and Prejudice. The other book I am constantly asked to read from is, Charlotte’s Web.

Books we have acquired this month and/or are enjoying are:
Big Book of Earth and Sky (more like a pull out chart rather than a book)
With Lee and Virginia (Audio dramatized work)
Ben Franklin and the Magic Squares

I hope you enjoyed this post and got some ideas for your children. 🙂 Comment and tell me your favorites! We’re always looking for more ideas.
