Audio books have long been a staple in my homeschool. It all started with Little House on the Prairie from my Mom’s shelf. From there it moved to the Narnia series, also on my mom’s shelf. And then finally, last year we found the dramatization of G. A. Henty.  Recently, I learned how to find audible books affordably.

Certain kindle eBooks will allow you to add the audio book for a lesser amount then it would be to buy the audio book PLUS you get the kindle book as well.  We recently did this with The Wizard of Oz read by Anne Hathaway (deal no longer available). Of course that sparked my curiosity as to what other audio books, through audible, would be available for my Kindle!

We picked the The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, however the children preferred their dear mother, aka me, to read this aloud to them. (Down below is where I will list the current audible deals as of the time this post goes live).

From that point on, we decided that we could quickly use up the homeschool budget with just buying audio books, so I had to come up with a quick solution.  On that note, did you know that public libraries can have audio books for checkout?

We first picked up The Witch of Blackbird Pond. We loved it! It was a bit difficult to get into at first but soon enough, we were enjoying the adventures of Kit. It also sparked a great discussion with the older two about Salem Witch Trials.  On that note, I found the Series, What Was, and we picked up the book, What Was the Salem Witch Trial to go over with the older two. I think it was handles beautifully. AND it’s discounted at 57% right now. (check here for more of these awesome books, discounted for limited time– you are NOT going to want to miss them!)

Ok, where was I? Oh! Yes, audio books! Ahem, So we returned the Witch of Blackbird Pond and picked up two others, The Castle in the Attic (A childhood favorite) and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, I cannot recommend these enough! I have a reading tip; get them hooked on the audio book you have to return, then hand them the hard copy you have on your shelf, so that they can keep getting more of their favorite story.
DEAL ALERT! In order to get the best deal for this: purchase the kindle book (great resource to have) and click the button that says, “add audible” for the discounted price! Get both audible and kindle ebook for less than the cost of the audio book!

Finally, this is the third audio book I would suggest you buy. Like the two audio books above, the best deal is when you buy both the Kindle and the audio. I love Lois Lenski and Indian Captive is one of my top favorite books of all times!
