The dressmaker’s secret is a sweet Christian novel about a girl in search for her father, and a woman running away from her Father.
The book was slow going at first and page after page was filled with a lot of Christian talk. There were times when I felt like the author needed to give us back story and created a scene where she could do just that, but it left me feeling more disconnected at the convenient way of learning more of the back story.
However, the more I got into the book, the more I began loving the characters. Alice reminds me of one of my own children and actually a bit of Laura Ingalls too. Hard to really put into words but she had that child innocence that Laura had as well as the intelligence to notice a lot of things. I really liked the fact that Kellyn Roth brought up something that really bothers me about many Christian works and that is the taintedness of illegitimate children as being all on the mother’s side of things.
I genuinely loved the twist that the author gave us at the end. I wasn’t sure how the book would end on so many levels and each one of them didn’t fit a lot of the molds and I enjoyed that! For those that love a good read, I think this may be a good fit for you.
This book is a clean read and filled with biblical conversations. For those that long for the return of Christian fiction classics, this may be the book for you.
This book is on tour with Celebrate Lit. I was provided a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

About the Author
Kellyn Roth is a Christian historical women’s fiction & romance author from North-Eastern Oregon who has independently published multiple novels, the most notable being The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy series. You should definitely call her Kell.
Kell lives on family-owned property outside an unmemorable but historical town with her parents, two little brothers, arbitrary cat, precious border collies, a dozen cows, and lots of chickens. She also possesses a classic, vintage aesthetic which does not at all speak to her country girl side, but such is life.
When not writing, Kell likes to blog, teach writing to her various students, have day jobs which allow her to keep her car properly insured, and spend lavish amounts of money on Dairy Queen french fries.
